Session 1

Friday March 2nd, 2012
When I initially met with Islam I knew right away he was special. He is always smiling and he is always willing to work with us. During my first meeting with Ms. Colvin, who teaches Math and Science to students with Special Needs at Sandalwood High School she told me that he struggles with the little things. He is on about a 1st Grade Level and find it hard to count change and measure objects. So I am thinking that for our pre test we can be on counting change. When I first sat down with him, I'm sure he thought that I was punishing him because he didn't think it was fun. He smiled and did it anyway. I thought that this was the best form of assessment because counting change is an easy process for us but not necessarily for him. This is also a task for real-life. We all deal with money on a daily basis so I thought this would help.

He didn't do that we on it. In fact he missed them all. He was able to count the amount od coins that were there. And I know that this is a start and we can build on this. I feel that when when I do this again that we can start on counting objects. This would be the easiest and then we can add the totals.
